Do the Guys With Big Muscles Always Get the Girl? by The Average Guy
A study to be published in the August edition of Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin found that women like to hook up with muscular guys for short term affairs but that you prefer regular guys to marry or enter into long term relationships.
The study showed six standardized silhouettes of men. The silhouettes ranged from thin guys to brawny. The study found that women thought the most muscular men were volatile and domineering. These women also said that these men were less likely to commit.
The study also found that the women preferred the 'toned' guy that was too steps down from the most muscular silhouettes. I guess this would be the David Beckham, Brad Pitt type. David Frederick, the lead author and UCLA psychology doctoral candidate, said that 'Moderate muscularity demonstrates that men are in good condition, but they are not so overloaded with testosterone that they are volatile, aggressive and dominant. Just based upon their experiences, women seem able to weigh good and bad male traits.'
What does all of this mean?
It means that women look at men to determine whether to hook up with them. The more muscular they are, the more likely that women will hook up with them for short term affairs or one-night-stands. The study authors said that muscles in men equals beautiful tail feathers in a peacock. The muscles are displayed to show sexual prowess and it works.
In a similar study, Frederick studied muscular men and asked them how many affairs they had with women who already had boyfriends. They found that muscular men were twice as likely to have hooked up with women who were in committed relationships.
The study's author also said that the 'sweet guy' approach works better for less muscular men. They will provide the romance, intimacy and caring. 'The muscular men don't need to put in this kind of effort, especially for a short term relationship.'
So, are both sexes guilty of the same sort of behavior? Do we both look to hookup with cartoonish looking people with exaggerated muscles and breasts? Do we deserve what we get from these people? Have we evolved at all?
