Why Won't He Commit? by DDHG Editorial Team
Men are so hard to figure out, right? Well, that depends on who you ask. If you ask a woman, she would most likely say men are indeed hard to figure out. They speak a different language; you can never understand what they're saying and they're always sending mixed messages to the women they date. Like one minute they're ready to commit to you in a serious way, the next minute they're looking for ways to kick you to the curb, often without an adequate explanation. Why did he say he loved you and a few days later call to say he needed his space? So what's a girl to do when her heart belongs to a guy who can't commit?
The truth is there are a host of reasons why men don't commit. Men often say they're afraid to commit to you because they've been hurt in the past or perhaps they've been cheated on by a woman and are leery of getting hurt again. The list is endless.
If you're with a commitment-phobe, you've got a lot of options. You could leave instead of wasting more time in a dead-end relationship. You could get the help of a good couples therapist and cop a couple of sessions for you and your man, hoping to alleviate his fear of commitment. Or you could give him an ultimatum, something men usually don't react well to. Don't do any of those things until you first do this '" your man is fearful of commitment. It could be just butterflies or he could be a hardcore commitment-phobe. Find out by asking him whether or not it would be helpful for you both to sit down and come up with a timeline for when you'll be able to make take the relationship to another level? Be sure to tell him that you're going to be dating other men while he decides what he wants to do. If he's really loves you, but has a few butterflies in his stomach and the thought of committing for life, he'll oppose that option. If he's a hardcore commitment-phobe, he'll gladly let you loose on the dating scene.
Good luck!
