Empower Yourself
Eight Weight Bustin' Tips! by The Average Guy
So you gained a few over the holidays, huh? No worries, here are eight tips for helping you- whether you're a guy or gal-lose the pounds!
1. Just like you can't spend more than you earn, you can't eat more than you burn. Make it a point to create a calorie deficit every day. Consume less calories than you burn and you've mastered the winning formula for losing weight.
2. Just like overspending makes you poor, overeating makes you fat.
3. You'd be surprised what you eat every day. Write it down and take a look. Make a note of every morsel of food you put in your mouth and you'll find that one M&M you had at lunch can turn into 15 M&Ms by the end of the day.
4. Keep your eyes open. Watch out for hidden calories. You know the ones in salad dressing, condiments, soft drinks and butter. Those little things can add up to big calories before you know it.
5. Waste not, want not. It's okay to throw food away. You don't have to eat all of your food or your kid's food. Eat only until you feel full. Don't overeat because you feel guilty about the food going to waste.
6. Move it or lose it. It's important to do some sort of physical activity, preferably in a gym, for 30 minutes each day.
7. Find a partner. That person's responsibility is to hold you accountable. That person is there to prop you up when you need it and congratulate you when it's called for.
8. Pat yourself on the back. When you lose the weight, reward yourself. Buy whatever you want. Whether it's a new suit or a lavish trip, know that at the end of your weight loss journey, that is what is waiting for you. Remember, if you lose the weight, you'll need a new wardrobe at minimum! Good luck!
