How to Keep Your New Year's Resolution by DDHG
In a few days a new year will be upon us and just like last year you've resolved to do a variety of things you didn't get to in 2006. Remember that ten pounds you resolved to lose this time last year? What about your resolution to get a new job that you actually like? And let's not forget that resolution to find a great guy instead of going out with that string of undateables last spring? Here are five steps you can take now to help you keep your New Year's resolution. (1) Aim low. Contrary to popular belief, keeping your aim low will increase your chance of success. Instead of resolving to lose 40 pounds and fit into your high school prom dress, aim for a more realistic 10 to 15 pounds and keep it off. Commit to your goal, hit the gym and get it done! You'll reflect on it next New Year's with pride that you were able to achieve your goal. (2) Don't overdo it. Stick to two or three resolutions. It would be nice to achieve all twenty things on your resolution list, but concentrate on two or three and you'll have a greater chance of success. (3) Tell your friends. They will be a great support system that will help you achieve your goal. (4) Shop '˜til you drop. That's right, reward yourself for what you've accomplished. It will give you great incentive to tackle some of the other things on your list. (5) Be persistent. Don't sweat it if you backslide a little. That's normal when you're doing something you're not used to doing. Just stick with and tackle your goal little by little. You'll be glad you did!
