Love Don't Cost a Thing, Right? by The Average Guy
A few days ago, I was reading a high end car magazine. The advertisements intrigued me. The advertisements consisted almost entirely of cars, watches, private jet services, dogs and women. Yes, women. There were more advertisements for women than for dogs, but not for watches.
These were not advertisements for escorts. These ads were for dating services that would set a man up with beautiful models. These weren't the women one would meet on regular dating websites. These were women that would only be available to wealthy men who could afford them.
The thing that was disgusting about the advertisements was the simple fact that women were being advertised as a commodity. They were right in there with cars, watches and dogs. There was a very clear message to men that said 'Hey, you have made it. You deserve the best in life. The best cars, the best watches and the best women. If you have the money, you can buy anything that you want.'
Is this the state of love in America? I guess it is for some people. It is a shame for both of the sexes. Men think so little of themselves that they would actually sign up for a dating service geared toward rich men. So, what do these rich guys think the girls on the other end are looking for? Are they looking for men old enough to be their father? Nope. Are they looking for the great love of their young lives? Nope. Pick me, I know the answer! They are looking for men to pay for the priviledge of sleeping with them. Bingo!
They aren't crass money grubbers. They are sophisticated money grubbers that want your credit cards and the keys to your house and cars. They want the jewels and the watches. They want the lifestyle and they want the rich guy to pay for it. The saddest thing about this is that the rich guy knows it. He's not getting taken. He's giving himself away. He thinks that he deserves love and is willing to pay for top dollar to get it. It would be sad if it weren't so funny.
I was at a professional basketball game several years ago and this tall geeky lawyer walked in the arena with a bomb shell. She looked like she just stepped off of the pages of Vouge. Guys in the stands were literally bowing to lawyer in mocking humility. It was clear that the women would not have been with this geek but for the fact that he was very rich. This became even clearer as he walked the model to the $100,000 per year seats. Over the next few seasons, I would continue to see this couple come into the arena and it was clear that he married the model. Then one night I was at dinner with my date and saw the man sitting alone. There he was alone and his model was gone with half of his money.
I guess you can buy love. But, you get what you pay for. There is no warranty with this commodity. There's no guarantee that she will love you or actually be faithful to you.
