Should You Stay Friends With Your Ex's Parents After a Break-up? by The Average Guy
You and your boyfriend have called it quits. But, you really liked his family. You and his sister are friends and you are closer to his mother than to yours. Should you remain friends with his family? As always, it depends.
Will this friendship stop your from moving on? If so, then the obvious answer is that you should find a new set of friends. You have to be able to set aside any fantasy that you will get back together with your ex and that you all will be one big happy family again. That is not going to happen and thoughts like that give you from finding the new 'man of your dreams'. You can't hang onto the past and if these friendship make you long for the good old days, then just keep going.
What does your ex- boyfriend think? After all, it is his family. Most men are going to have a problem with it. Men want to move on and we don't want old baggage hanging around at the next family dinner. Men don't want not so subtle pressure from their families to get back together with you. But, he may view you more like a sister than former lover. If so, that really tells you that you need to move on for yourself. Why do you need to be around this? Before you know, he will be bringing the new girlfriend around and you will get your feelings hurt.
How would you feel? This is an important question. You have to make room for a new person in your heart and in your life. You can't do this if you are hanging around your ex's family. How would you feel if your new man was still hanging around his ex's family? Someplace in your heart, you would be thinking that he wants to get back together with the ex. Your man will probably feel the same way. It just seems weird. How is he supposed to feel joining you on one of your visits to your ex's family?
Consider that there are a lot of feelings and emotions on both sides. His family has feelings for you and about your relationship. But, ask yourself whether you are using them as a crutch before moving onto the next guy and dumping them. They are real people with real emotions and their feelings need to be clearly considered.
