Are You Guilty of Dressing for Attention? by Tasha Cunningham

On almost any street, anywhere in the world from Los Angeles to Lisbon, you can find women who dress provocatively. These women usually sport low-cut shirts, dresses with thigh-high hemlines and sheer tops that leave nothing to the imagination.

Why do women dress this way? Believe it or not, because they are ovulating, according to the experts! A recent MSNBC article quoted a group of researchers at the University of California Los Angeles who discovered that in a study of college-aged women, on average, they dressed more provocatively when they were ovulating.

"'They tend to put on skirts instead of pants, show more skin and generally dress more fashionably,' MSNBC quotes Martie Haselton, a communication studies and psychology expert at the University of California Los Angeles who led the study as saying.

Women who dress provocatively can also take much longer to climb the corporate ladder, unless the woman in question is a receptionist, according to a 2005 ABC News story on the subject.

"The results showed that a provocatively dressed women in a managerial role evoked hostile emotions and were deemed less intelligent. But when study participants were told that the woman was a receptionist, there were no negative emotions or negative perceptions of the woman's competence," the article revealed.

So before you put on your clothes each morning, ladies, think about the impression you want to make and where you want to in life. Wearing tight jeans, raunchy t-shirts, skimpy skirts and tawdry high-heel shoes is not going to get you anywhere in the long run, unless, of course, you are the receptionist! :-)
