Should You Stay Friends With Your Ex? by The Average Guy
I was speaking with a friend the other day when he told me he was having problems with his girlfriend. He was disturbed because she was still friends with her ex-boyfriend.
This is a difficult issue to deal with because of the nature of the prior relationship - they were lovers. Now, you are the lover and you naturally don't want an old lover sniffing around.
What does the Average Guy think about this?
Most men would not want the ex-boyfriend hanging around. We naturally think that you may still be attracted to the guy. But, that begs the question of why you aren't with him anymore. If he was 'the man' then you would still be with him, right? It is right, but that doesn't speak to the ex's intentions and that is what we are afraid of.
We know guys and we don't believe that an ex-boyfriend can take the fact that he is no longer top dog. He will try to get close to your woman to see if the 'spark' can be reignited. He may not even really want your woman, but he wants to know that he can have her if he wants to. He is in a sick kind of guy competition where you are the prize.
Now, all ex's should not be threatening. For example, if the relationship has been over for several years, then there is nothing to worry about. Also, if the ex was more of a friend than a lover, then we guys have nothing to worry about. But, women need to let everybody know that the current boyfriend is the man.
All of the prior advice assumes that you and the ex were friends before the current boyfriend came into the picture. If that's not the case, then the ex boyfriend needs to stay on his side of the street and move on with his life. No good can come from rekindling an old relationship, whether as friends or not. Concentrate on your current relationship and make the best out it.
