Why You Should Have a Destination Wedding by Kerry Gray
Why have a destination wedding? They are all the rage because they are romantic and a lot of fun!
It used to be that a destination wedding meant you were flying to Vegas. Not anymore! You can get married on a ship, in Europe, or on an island paradise in a canoe with the cabin boy taking pictures. You can get married with the dolphins, or standing on a cliff with eagles soaring overhead.
Destination weddings are all about making it perfect for you, fun and affordable. If the idea of planning a big church wedding with a lot of people makes you break out into a cold swear, a wedding somewhere else might be perfect for you.
You do not have to go to a big island in the Caribbean to have one, although that is a popular choice. You can drive an hour away to the beach if that fits in with your time frame and your budget. You can find places close to home with romantic outdoor settings. You can choose only those details that matter to you most.
The basics are a groom, a dress, a bouquet, and photographs. Next is music, a cake, flowers and souvenirs. Don't forget the rings! With just a little planning, you can create the perfect wedding in any setting.
These great ideas will help you get started. First, think about what you both like. Do you prefer the snow or the sand and a beach?
Do you think a waterfall, a lake, a forest or a flower covered meadow sounds romantic?
Did you meet somewhere you might return to to get married, like a bowling alley, a place with a stage, or the hike and bike trail? We know one couple who met at a horse race. They returned to get married in the Winners Circle and had a race named after them.
Pick the outdoor element that suits you both, then think about the sound that surrounds your ideal spot. You might like a waterfall, but standing under one means you won't hear your vows and the camera won't hear you speaking either.
The wind at the beach, and even a lake, can interfere with your hair and dress, so take those things into consideration when picking your spot.
The great thing about a destination wedding is that you do not have to plan and prepare for a lot of people. You can ask only those you can afford to take, or those you know would want to pay for their trip. It is okay to say that youare getting married on a budget someplace else; people do it all the time. Be honest with your family and friends about what you can afford.
They will not want you to break the bank to take them, and they might enjoy sending you a wedding gift and waving goodbye. Do not involve too many people in your plans. Create your simple wedding plan and then tell them what you are doing. Do not ask for their opinions or advice; you will get too many responses and then feel guilty and torn trying to accommodate everybody. Say you would like to include them if they want to come and you are looking at ways to afford it.
If money is no object, many hotels and vacation destinations offer wedding packages, and they will make travel arrangements and provide rooms for as many people as you want. They will provide a little gazebo or place to marry, an official to conduct the wedding, flowers, photographs, witnesses, and have many other options to choose from. Shop online for these packages. In today's economy they sometimes offer a real bargain, and the planning is a piece of cake. No headaches!
