Will He Ever Propose? Find Out! by Kerry Gray
It is one of the big mysteries of life. What makes a guy finally propose? We have all heard this story. A great guy goes with a great girl for a long time, breaks up, then marries another girl in a very short time. Maybe you were that story. Maybe you were that girl. What makes a guy ready to put a ring on it? The answer might surprise you.
The truth is it has much less to do with the woman and way more to do with the man being at a certain stage of his life. You can really be the right girl at the wrong time. That can be painful to realize and understand if you lost a potential life partner because of it. A man needs these traits in place to be ready to commit. The right woman then completes the picture and the wedding march begins.
First, the guy gets tired of playing around. His frat boys, his dogs and his posse get old and he starts to long for the comfort and security of one woman in one place. Superficial relationships and casual sex contribute to his getting tired of his bachelor lifestyle. He starts to see himself settling down and having a family.
Next, he starts to believe he can be enough of a provider at work and at home. He begins to picture himself as the man of the house.
Often, a guy still in school or climbing the corporate ladder will not feel this way. For example, many girls put their guys through medical school, only to get dropped for a hottie nurse when school is over. Make sure your man is ready in his professional life for the next step in his personal life.
The man who is ready to marry is able to accept flaws and imperfections. Many guys insist on finding the perfect girl and try to date "up" along the way. A great girl might get dropped because he thinks he can find someone better. Along the way, men who commit realize that everyone has flaws, and he can live with that. Guys pass up great girls who are great for them until they figure this out.
The man ready to sign on for life has come to truly believe in commitment. He realizes that life is a journey and the road might be more important than the destination. He makes a decision not to bail out when the waves are rough. Commitment is a decision and a choice.
Marriage is a decision and a choice. This does not mean he never has doubts or never thinks about leaving. This means he does not act on those feelings immediately. Instead he but commits to working on and working out the problems instead of divorce.
These personal traits usually only come alive in men who have the capacity to truly love. Falling in love is easy in early relationships. Falling out of love happens with time. A lot of men fall in love, but staying together means actually loving, not being "in" love. He loves her for her she is and wants to be with her because of who she is. He loves her. He is no longer "in" love, he just loves.
These are the characteristics your man needs to have to commit. If he has them and you are the right girl at the right time, then get ready. You will be walking up the aisle before you know it.
