I'd like to get on a diet, but one that really works. I'm trying to lose just 7 or 8 pounds. Any advice?

Yes. Within 1 hour of waking up, you need to eat SOMETHING. Fresh fruit is best, as your body can digest fruit on an empty stomach in 20 minutes. It also provides you with simple sugars that your body can process and use for energy. It also lets informs your metabolism 'hey, we are going to eat today- we can burn these calories off and not store them as fat for future use.' For lunch- eat a large, healthy lunch. This feeds your body for the rest of the day, and it also tells your metabolism- HEY!! We can burn these calories and not store them as fat because she is feeding us REALLY well.' Your metabolism will burn a LOT faster- Then for dinner, eat a light healthy dinner. I know this is hard, but what happens is your are STILL telling your metabolism to burn the calories rather than store them. It will take a while to retrain your metabolism, but once you do, you can snack ALL day long. You will be able to eat whatever you want. It isn't WHAT you eat, it is HOW MUCH. Cheescake, ice cream, heavy cream sauces, butter, etc, are not your enemy.. Our appetites are our enemy. DOn't eat a whole slice of cheesecake- have a few bites. It satisfies your cravings, you don't feel deprived, and you didn't screw yourself over. Also, with your meals, DO NOT combine meat protien and starches (ie: potato, pasta, rice) Your body takes 3 times as long to process these combinations as compared to eating meat with a salad or vegetable. The longer it takes your body to process your food, the more confused your metabolism becomes. Best of luck to you!!!! Also, don't forget to get 1/2 hour of exercise 3 times a week.

My doctor is a firm believer in the south beach diet. No carbs for two weeks then only eat good carbs. Which are veggies. You can also go to spark people website. there is great support there and you can monitor everything you eat.
