LOVE PANEL
You guys are great on this site! I've been able to find out a lot about the way women think and feel in relationships. Now, I need help! I want to break it off with my girlfriend, but I don't know want to get into any drama with her like a yelling and screaming match. I'm just not into her anymore, but she's a great girl and I don't want to hurt her. What should I do?

there is no harm in writing her a letter to break the news. A letter will enable you to say the things you want to say in a tactful, caring way the first time around and you won't be sucked into an argument. It will also give her a chance to cope with the breakup on her own and with friends before she sees you.
That is a question that you need to answer yourself before you tell her that it's over. She's going to want to know how and why this break-up came about and you better have a good answer. The usual ones like, it's me, not you, isn't going to cut it! If you've found someone else, tell her and be honest. She's going to be hurt, there's no way to avoid that, but if you're honest with her and break the news to her in a gentle, caring way, both you and your soon-to-be ex should be okay. Good luck!
Dean, it takes two people to fight. She's not for you anymore and that you've found someone else that you would like to see, even if you haven't. The last part may be a lie, but she will so hate you for it, that she may not want to fight. She will just tell you to '***k yourself and get out.' Also, breakup in a public place like star bucks. She less likely to go postal. Have all of your stuff out of her house so you never have to see her again, or just leave it there knowing it's going into the fireplace. Or, you could just tell her truth and let her get the yelling and crying out of her system and take it like a man. I've done both and they both suck. But, you'll feel better about yourself if you do it the second way. Remember that karma is a ***. Treat her like you'd want to be treated.
