Experts think we now text message each other more than we make phone calls! But the truth is, too much texting can freak a guy out. To him, it feels aggressive. Texting him first takes away his fun of the chase, and he feels pressured into sending you a response right away. Definitely not the way to start a relationship!
A few text messages a day are okay. Follow his lead, but do not always be available. Let him text you a few times for each time you answer. Do not always tell him where you are or try to check in with him to see where he
is. Here are seven more times to never text your new guy.
1. When you are angry. Remember that you cannot take it back, and if you flame him you might be really sorry later. Texting while angry can make you sound insecure and bitchy. Don't do it. Wait and calm down.
2. When you are drunk. It is too bad our cells phone do not have breathalyzers that keep us from drunk texting. Do not text while drinking. Hide the phone from yourself if you have to, or put big notes on it that say No No NO! Do not text for bootie calls and do not text to meet him asap. Being easy and available is not attractive.
3. When you are trying to be funny. Humor is best in person, when you can use your facial expressions and the tone of your voice to send the right message. Jokes can be taken the wrong way when texted out of context. Texting something like "you were so crazy last night" might sound like you are mad, when you thought it was funny instead.
4. When you've only been out a few times. Let him text you first for at least six months. He does not belong to you just because you have gone out a few times. Texting him over and over tells him you are insecure and not cool. When you do this, the relationship will end quicker than you think. Even if you have a lot in common and the new relationship is promising, if you overdo it on texting, he will move on to someone with more confidence who does not burn up his phone with texts.
5. When you've already texted him a couple of times today. Same message, second verse. Limit the texting. No sexting, either!
6. When you are outside a party and he's inside, or vice versa. This is just dumb. Entire parties go by with the girls outside and
the guys inside, texting all night long. Go inside and talk to each other. You might be the only one who does. Score!
7. To breakup. Texting to break up is for elementary school children. If you are big enough to go out, you are big enough to break
in person. Or over the phone. Or in an email. Or maybe a post it note. Just kidding! Have the decency to break it off in person.
Now that you've got the rules down, you'll be known as a grown up girl who is cool and can handle the texting. If you follow these rules, you'll never get in trouble for your text messages.
