ALERT: Why Women Cheat
Emotional needs that are not being met in a relationship and a lack of intimacy are the main reason many women have affairs. A man in a marriage can be physically present but emotionally absent. Over time, the woman feels unfulfilled and seeks an outside relationship that makes her feel beautiful and desired. Men cheat more often for physical reasons, and women cheat for emotional reasons. Women thrive with emotional connections to their partners. Men are often satisfied with a simple physical encounter.
Bad sex is another reason women stray outside their relationship. Women want quality, not quantity. A woman in a relationship with lots of sex wants the sex to be good. Her man might be happy with sex that is not so special, but a woman is not. If the sexual spark is gone, women might cheat to recreate that special infatuated feeling of being newly in love. Women would rather have a gourmet meal once a month than McDonald's every day.
One last and surprising reason that many women cheat is revenge. They want to reaffirm themselves after they have been cheated on. They want to get back at their partner while feeling desired by someone new. Yesterday's generation of women who were cheated on kept their mouths shut and did not complain. Our generation of women are different. When today's women are cheated on, they will often go out and have an affair to retaliate.
How can you protect your relationship from affairs? Do not take your partner for granted. Address problems early. Communicate often and clearly about the needs and desires you each bring to the table. Get counseling for issues that are creating pain.
