For the last 8 months, I was dating a guy that I thought was a dream come true. He was, at least I thought, he was everything I had ever wanted in a mate. Then, in July he gave me a promise ring. I couldn't have been happier. Then 3 days after he gave it to me he went thru my cell phone and deleted the name of EVERY guy in it. I was really upset. Is this normal? Should I give him his ring back? - Jessica

No, you shouldn't give him his ring back unless you're broken up. Your boyfriend was just doing what guys do - staking claim to our women. He apparently cares for you so much that he's given you a ring and wants you off the market.
He could have gone about this in a much better way that just arbitrarily deleting every guy's name in your phone. But often, guys aren't sure of the proper way to ask the woman they love to get rid of the guys in their lives. We guys know something women are often in denial about – there is no such thing as a platonic friendship between a man and a woman.
Tell your guy you weren't happy with what he did. He'll apologize and you'll both move on. -- The Average Guy
