Guy Stuff: How to Behave Like a Gentleman on a First Date
Bookmark and Share
Dear DDHG,
I'm a guy in search of some good advice. I have been wanting to date a co-worker of mine for a long time, but she's always had a boyfriend. But two weeks ago, she announces to the entire office that she's broken up with the guy. In her own words she said, "I'm single and ready to mingle."

So, stupid me, I decide to ask her out on a date. We went to a restaurant and I thought everything was cool. I, for one, had a nice time...or so I thought. The next day at work I find out she told everyone in the office what a bad guy I was because I didn't open her door or give her my jacket when it started raining and we had to run to my car. Really?! Am I a bad guy because of that? She also told everyone how I tried to kiss her at the end of the night.

Dear Jerked Around:

You're not a bad guy in the traditional sense, but you didn't make yourself look good when you had your co-worker/date walk in the rain and then forget to open her car door.

You may have mistakenly thought that today's independent women don't want men to do stuff like that for them, but you would be wrong. A lot of guys make the mistake of thinking that.

In reality, women love it when guys treat them like princesses so the next time you score a first date with a woman you've had your eye on for a while, don't blow it. Open doors and offer your jacket when it rains (even if it means you're going to get rained on). You won't get a kiss from a girl if you're not a gentleman in her eyes. - The Average Guy
