Dear DDHG,
I am having quite a problem. I did a stupid thing and had an affair with my boss. It was one of the dumbest things I ever did. I tried to end it several weeks ago, but he continues to ask me out, call me into his office, etc.
A couple of days ago, I had it out with him and told him in no uncertain terms that our affair was over. I have a boyfriend and he is married. The next thing I know, he sends a memo out saying that I had been demoted and that someone else was going to take over my responsibilities while I was being reassigned within the company. WHAT?! I was furious. Now, I don't know what to do. My boyfriend would kill me if he found out.

Hi Carina,
This is one where you're going to have to decide within yourself if keeping this job is really worth it to you. We're in a recession, so it might be. The problem is you can't get a fair shake at work and you're being retaliated against by your boss.
I would take a little trip to your company's Human Resources department to see what they recommend. Having an affair in the workplace never ends well. You will have to fight this and it's going to call attention to you for sure. What your boss is doing isn't right, but neither was what the both of you did by having an affair. Steer clear of office romances in the future! -- Rachel Grant
