Help! I'm in Love With a Man I've Never Met
Q. Dear DDHG,
So I have been talking to this man online that lives in another state from me. I have fallen in love with this man that I have never met. I recently found out that he has been talking to this other girl that contacted him about 2 weeks ago. He has been telling me that he loves me. I asked him about her and it turned into this big deal. I ended up talking to this other girl and she said he was interested in her and talked to her a lot. I have confronted him about it and he admitted to it and has apologized and said that he wishes he could take it all back but knows he can't. I am so miserable with out him in my life. I recently told him that I wanted to try to be friends for right now. Any advice on this would be good!
A. Long distance relationships are really tough to maintain so first, I recommend that you work hard to meet men who live near you, guys you can go out with and get to know personally. It's virtually impossible to have a solid relationship with someone you never see. Also try to make new friends in your area and get involved in activities so the man you are dating is not your only focus.
It's important for you and all women to keep in mind that you cannot make a man love you or want you by asking him questions about the relationship. And quite frankly there isn't much you can do to keep him from going out with other women if that is what he wants to do. He has to want to date you and want to be faithful to you. It has to be his choice and you have to let him make it without any pressure from you. -- Alison James
