Q. Dear DDHG,
I'm a loyal reader of this site and I'm a man. Although I've learned a lot about men and women and dating on this site, I now have a problem that I do not how to solve.
I have been with my girlfriend for about six years. Recently, she told me that while I was away on business, she cheated on me. I should tell you that she has complained for about two years about my work hours since I got a second job to support us, so her thing was that I was never home, so she decided to spend time with another guy.
Anyway, after I found out about her cheating, she supposedly ended it with the guy she was seeing behind my back. I broke up with her and we went our separate ways.
Turns out, though, that she is now pregnant. She says the baby is mine, but I don't know given the fact that she was with another guy. What should I do?
A. I feel bad for you, my friend. As a guy, I know how much is sucks when a woman cheats on you. In your situation, you have a right to doubt that you are the father of your ex's baby.
What I would do is start looking into getting a paternity test performed as soon as possible. I understand that there are tests that can be done while the fetus is still in the womb. It sounds like you don't want to try and forgive her and have a relationship again, which is fine.
But if you are the father of that child, you are going to have to step up and do the right thing. Until you know whether or not you are the father, I suggest keeping your distance from your ex, but let her know that you are taking the necessary steps to get a paternity test done. Good luck, man!
