How can you get a man to respect you? By not tolerating it if your man treats you with disrespect. If you get less than his total respect, kick him to the curb immediately.
What does it mean if your man is disrespecting you? A man can disrespect you in big ways and little ways. You recognize it when you see it although it is hard to admit it. No girl wants to believe her man is dissing her. You cannot tolerate any disrespect at all. The good news is there are ways to address it and fix this attitude problem.
Your man might get so wrapped up in other activities that he begins to ignore you.
Other people become his priority and you are on his back burner. You might give him
a card or a gift that he delays opening because he is so busy. He might not answer your email right away because he says it was too long so he put it off. He just did not have time. Oh, really? This is disrespect.
Do not try to talk to him about it because men respond to actions more than words. Remove yourself from his personal comfort zone and become less available. He will realize it when you are not there.
If a man is disrespecting you big time he will be taking you for granted in a lot of ways.
He will go out with others while you stay home. He will put his own needs and wishes first. He will not work to make you happy. He will let the relationship simply exist while he becomes the center of his own universe. Does he first email you about how you are or does he wait until he asks for something for himself? Does he reciprocate your thoughtfulness in return to you?
Each person is responsible for making sure their needs are met in a relationship but there must be some balance. If things are always one way with no give and take then there is a basic disrespect of some kind in the relationship.
If you allow it to continue then you are disrespecting yourself. Remove yourself from the situation. Step back while you take a break to think about things. You must end disrespect early and not later in your relationship. Do not spend ten or twenty or fifty years being disrespected. Do not give it even one year of your precious time.
If you need to bring it up keep it simple. Say "if you would rather be spending your time somewhere else then that is okay with me" and leave it at that. Give him some time to think about. If he pushes it to the limit then tell him you have had just about all the disrespect that you are going to take. Then leave it alone and let him think about that. Men do not need women to go on and on and harp on something although a lot of girls try.
Do not push your man's buttons like that. Remember that you are a team and on his side and he had better be on your side too. State your case in one or two simple sentences. Drop it and move on.
This sets a good example and shows him the respect you are demanding he give you in return.
Always remember the great Aretha Franklin and her song, R E S P E C T. You can have it
if you do not operate without it.
