How to Ditch an Undateable Guy
Q. Dear DDHG,
I recently met a guy at a bookstore. He's very nice, but definitely not my type. I ran into him a few more times and once at a restaurant while I was waiting for one of my girlfriends. We shared a soda while I waited. The next thing I know, this guy is asking me for my phone number and e-mail address. He found me on Facebook and tried to friend me. I ignored him. I still see him around all the time and really want him to get the hint that just because we shared a soda, it doesn't mean I want to date him. I was just trying to be polite. Help!
A. The best thing you can do in a situation like this is be upfront right away. Let him know that you've got a boyfriend, or you're not interested in dating anyone right now. Say it in no uncertain terms so he doesn't think he's got a chance with you.
Leading him on in any way is just going to make things worse. When you see him around, say "hi", but that's it. Don't engage him in conversation. You don't want to be cruel, but you do want to be polite and to the point here. Eventually, he'll get the hint that you're not interested! -- The Average Guy
