Guys and Girls,
It's the battle of the sexes, a battle older than time - testosterone versus oxytocin.
Hormones are the most powerful chemicals on earth. Science has never been able to duplicate the raw power of our hormones.
Testosterone belongs to the guys, and oxytocin belongs to the girls.
Exactly what do they do? Testosterone drives the men to go to war, fight battles, and conquer everything in their path. It also leads them to have sex with as many women as they can during their life time. Through the ages, this drive has kept our species alive. Their bodies produce testosterone 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with no rest in site.
What does oxytocin do for the girls? It makes women want to have babies and nurture a family more than anything else. A woman can have the career of a lifetime and achieve beyond all measure. At the end of the day, if she has no children or a family to nurture, she still feels that something is missing. Oxytocin also feeds her desire for monogamy, for sex with one man for the rest of her life.
The hormones for men and women are so different. How in the world do we ever come together and see eye to eye on anything?
One answer is to have patience and tolerance for the needs and drives of the other sex. Another answer is to live the most complete and full life we can, without depending on anyone else to make us whole and complete.
When we complete ourselves, we do not depend or lean on another person to make our lives happy and whole. The secret to living your best life is to go ahead and live it, whether or not there is anybody else in it.
If you do that, then having a partner is icing on the cake. When you can appreciate the gift of your own life, you fully appreciate the gift of having someone else to share it.
Understand that your relationship with the opposite sex will always be full of differences. The differences are as huge
as the difference between testosterone and oxytocin. One will seek to conquer and the other will seek to nurture. One will always look for new adventures, and the other will always be happy creating peace on earth at home.
We live to love, and we love to live. Patience, understanding, and a little tolerance for the other sex goes a long way in creating a happy life for yourself.
